Solid Ground
Interpretation by Kay Duncan
I wasted precious time holding on to people who never had my best interests at heart. I was caught in a trap waiting for their approval, when all I needed was my own approval. Relinquishing myself from the negativity was cathartic, and allowed me to find my own place of solid ground.
I never liked, to be held down, oh no
Though I spent too many years, dumbing myself down
Walking among the crowds, I never allowed myself to show
Well It was cold and bitter place, where resentment grows
So I’m shaking off the old ways, yeah, that held me back so long
And I’m walking from the replays, these days
Chorus
I got my feet on solid ground
I’m on solid ground. Oh yes I am
So I went down, to the ocean blue (Blue, blue, blue)
Thoughts blowing northwards
Through my mind, I was thinking of you (I was thinking of you)
I’d been lost in my shadows, things were falling apart, Oh yes they were
Chaos had the better of me
And like Osiris I was scattered near and far (So far)
So I’ll lay those pieces across all time. Can’t put them back together I know
One thing’s for sure - I will be fine this time
Chorus
I got my feet on solid ground
I’m on solid ground. Oh yes I am
La lala lala la la, la lala lala la lala lala la
La lala lala la la, yeah yeah yeah yeah
So I’m holding on, to this fraction of me (holding on, holding on)
Shaping it up, to something worthy (something worthy)
It’s the only part, not cut down by you (cut down by you babe)
And now I’m grounded with a strength
Of the old and new (old and new)
Well it don’t mean that I ain’t flying
I like my head in the clouds sometimes
Change can be, so edifying, now I’m trying
Chorus
To get my feet on solid ground
I’m on solid ground. Oh yes I am
La lala lala la la, la lala lala la lala lala la
La lala lala la la, la lala lala la lala lala
I got my feet on, I got my feet on solid ground
(I’ve got my feet on solid ground I got my feet on solid ground)
I’m on solid ground.
