about

Watch The Fires Burn
Interpretation by Kay Duncan
That our small personal actions may somehow accumulate to make a difference may be difficult to believe, and we can become immobilised by the sheer enormity of the looming existential threats. But while we stand and watch the ‘fires burn’, our efforts are being swiftly destroyed by the greedy conglomerates. Adding further futility to the situation. To keep moving towards solutions for our survival, peaceful action and kindness is needed to nurture our-selves and our beautiful planet.

If you could walk in the shoes of a troubled soul
Would you have the insight to see that the life was stole
By the governments and the systems that bent
All the backs of the folk to labour discontent

Chorus:
When will we ever see
When will we ever learn
When will we ever change
Or will we just stand by and watch the fires burn
Oh watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn

When did we get so fast, when did we get so cold
When did we close our eyes and just do what we’re told
The elite may retreat to their secure enclaves
But their days are numbered, they’re just power slaves
With greed as the goal of the Neo -liberalism
And the corporate capitol with their short - sighted vision, short sighted vision

Break:
Restitution of equality
If that has ever been a thing in our history
Every person, every being on this globe
Has the right to love, to live in hope, oh to live in hope

We got to hold that hope like a new - born child
Open our eyes and refuse this denial
Of the existential threats and the tyranny
And the suffering within the broken regimes

Chorus:
When will we ever see
When will we ever learn
When will we ever change
Or will we just stand by and watch the fires burn
Watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn

Break:
Resisting consumerism
It’s just paying the way for the powers that be
To use for their weaponry when all we need is peace
Then they make a killing from our misery, from our misery

Teach our children and ourselves to live within our means
Re-invent a new normal (learn) from what has been
Find a deeper meaning in the choices we make
Slowing things down give our selves a break

Chorus:
When will we ever see
When will we ever learn
When will we ever change
Or will we just stand by and watch the fires burn
Watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn
Watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn
Watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn
Watch the fires burn,
Watch the fires burn, watch the fires burn.
